March 26, 2009Europe Syndrome--The trouble with taking the trouble out of everythingI think this is one of the most profound Op-Ed pieces I've read in a while (though I imagine my EU friends would give it more jeers than cheers). http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123793074783930483.html I don't agree with many things Murray opines, and I think he's too idealistic by half when it comes to believing presentation of evidence that flies in the face of entrenched beliefs magically creates sweeping changes (rather than resulting in vitriolic, discrediting attacks and nay-saying rhetoric, which is the more common response in our increasingly "discourse-is-evil, there-is-no-view-but-my-view, leave-me-in-my-comfort-zone/echo-chamber" society), but I think this SHOULD be widely read, especially if it pushes people out of their comfort zones. Without strife, striving, and challenges you're proud to have overcome, you go through life a zombie and die without having made a difference. Posted by khiggins at March 26, 2009 07:05 AM |
